Everything that fills the vacuum of inter-domain space is related in some way to vitalis - a distinct, fundamental force of the universe that correlates to consciousness. There are many mysteries behind vitalis, but one important thing that is known about it are its variations that resemble and are affected by emotional states. Vitalis constantly moves through space, and vitalis with similar states tend to congregate and coalesce; this leads the formation of celestial bodies. As celestial bodies grow, they undergo various phases:

  • When a celestial body in its earlier stages of development falls back into a domain, it is usually deemed an apparition. These take many forms and have different demeanors and abilities depending on the nature of the vitalis that comprises it. The main purpose of the DPSA is to deal with the threat apparitions can pose.

  • When a celestial body has amassed a large enough quantity of vitalis, it becomes a star. Unlike an apparition, which acts purely on the instincts of its vitalis, a star is the earliest stage when a celestial body acquires its own unique sense of individuality. Usually, it will also have its own name, which it acquires itself. Stars are normally stationary, but still wield godlike power when necessary, i.e. when its survival is at risk, and their presence can still influence the vitalis around it. If, for any reason, a star is destroyed before it can further evolve, it will cause a supernova, a massive explosion that can affect vitalis over a far greater area.

  • The final stage in a celestial body's development is a nebula. A nebula always emerges from a star; their sense of individuality is more developed, to the point where they develop autonomy, a consciousness, and freedom of movement. They have absolute mastery over the vitalis around them, and can also effect matter and change the laws of nature at their whim. They often use these abilities to create domains - pockets with their own natural laws and characteristics, where all recognizable forms of matter are found. They are often called "gods" or "suns". It is unknown how many nebulae, or domains, exist in the universe. Though incredibly rare, the death of a nebula often leads to another, more powerful version of a supernova, with much of the same effects.

Given the scale of a nebula's influence, the DPSA attempts to identity them, track them, and closely monitor their actions. The DPSA is not yet aware of exactly how many nebulae exist in the universe, but the current (ever-updating) record of nebulae consists of the following:

SEUSOLON:

ALIASES: God of Inquisition

DOMAIN(S): ...

DEMEANOR: Seusolon is noted for his endless pursuit of knowledge, no matter how seemingly trivial it may be from the perspective of a nebula. Practically, this makes him seem capricious. It is unknown just how many domains he has created and discarded in his lifetime as he wanders through the universe, and by just how much they vary. He is also known to grant power and/or knowledge to people who share his curious nature. This has led to the orchestration of many events; a notable instance for the DPSA is the bestowing of knowledge on how to create moons.

IODEMAS:

ALIASES:

DOMAIN(S): Rena

DEMEANOR: Iodemas is quite indifferent to the affairs of Rena. The domain is known for its unique ceremony that he himself instilled, called the Rite of Remembrance, where the vitalis of the recently deceased are allowed to return and interact with loved ones; it has been concluded that the Rite is the primary reason for the immense reverence felt by Rena's inhabitants towards him. However, according to the ancient myths of Rena, the Rite of Remembrance was created as a way for Iodemas to reminisce about his longtime companion and fellow nebula, Ioren, who was placed into an eternal slumber. Rena is supposedly named after her, and the domain's sun is a tomb for her body. Presently, Iodemas does not involve himself in the affairs of Rena; even after the Rite of Remembrance was replaced by the Parade of the Downcast, there have been no signs of action from him. According to intel, the only way to gain Iodemas' attention is through a single shrine in the northernmost point of the domain, eponymously dubbed "the Shrine of Iodemas".

IOREN:

ALIASES:

DOMAIN(S): Rena

DEMEANOR: Not much is known about Ioren other than her relationship to Iodemas. According to Renan legends, she and Iodemas created Rena together as companions; however, she was forced into an eternal slumber after battling another nebula. To honor her, Iodemas named the domain after her and created a sun to entomb her.
